Serve Our Community

One of the main goals of our church is to be a powerful advocate for the needy in our community. That starts right here in High Point.

A Simple Gesture

A Simple Gesture is a door-to-door food collection program that provides a steady supply of food to local food banks and pantries in order to end hunger in Guilford County. A Simple Gesture was founded in Greensboro, but has now expanded to High Point. All food collected in High Point stays here to be distributed to the four local food pantries we have supported with our Fill the Bus efforts: Open Door Ministries, Ward St. Mission, West End Ministries, and Burns Hill Neighborhood Association.

Here's How You Can Help:

1. Buy one additional non-perishable item every week when you go shopping.

2. Store it in the green bag that we provide by contacting David Lees (

3. Our Volunteer Drivers will come to your home, on the date specified on the attached tag on your green bag, collect your bag of food, and leave another green bag for you to use in the next two months. If you would rather, you are welcome to bring your bag to the church and place it in the bin in the foyer of the Education Building prior to the date on the tag.

Each fall, First United Methodist Church joins thousands of walkers across the country to raise funds to feed the hungry. Walkers raise money by obtaining sponsors from their friends, family and co-workers. One-fourth of all money raised stays in High Point to support Open Door Ministries of High Point. Remaining funds are used by Church World Service to fight hunger across the globe.

Naaman's Recovery Golf Tournament

Naaman’s Recovery Village is a Christ-centered residential recovery program, ministering to the mind, body and spirit of men in recovery from addiction. Each year, in August, we have a golf tournament to raise money to support Naaman's Recovery Village.
